julia sander

photography at its very best rivals all other visual art forms. in contemporary photography there are very few boundaries to confine the imagination, the camera can be truly employed to reflect the artists creative thoughts. in julia sander, 52 have found an artist who does just that.

julia resides in germany, where she works as a freelance photographer specializing on contemporary still life, capturing elements of modernity, silent moments and city life.

in 1996 julia moved to england, where she fell in love with “the creative english approach” whilst undertaking a foundation course (btec diploma in fine art) in st. helens.

thereafter at the exeter school of art & education, university of plymouth, she set out studying sculpture and installation, discovering photography as means of recording the world around her. through this she discovered the possibilities of expression photography opened up to her and she started concentrating on this new found media, thus completing her batchelor (hons) in design photography.

“similar to installations i like the way you can create a certain atmosphere in photographs. it's almost like writing a visual play. the way I approach stills is by the pure impression it sets on me. rather than impressing my own perception it is my highest aim to let the object speak for itself. the exciting part of my work is discovering the beauty in all the things i photograph”.
